Hocus Opus
A downloadable game for Windows
This game, our first Ren'Py project, was made for the 6th Spooktober Visual Novel Jam.
You'll find:
Gameplay that lasts 20 to 30 minutes.
4 different endings.
A tale take on Halloween with some familiar faces.
Thanks for checking!
Due to narrative requirements, some of the story's characters belong to the public domain.
These characters have been traced for accuracy from their original designs, and sometimes modified (within the jam duration) in search of the correct integration with the rest of the art. We do not claim to have created or own those designs and want to thank Gonzalo Castro for his legal help, because no Halloween could ever be as scary as a lawsuit from Disney.
All the backgrounds (excluding the golden mirror element), menus, and the three kids' designs are original and have been created for and during the jam.
The game doesn't contain explicit violence, gore, or severe emotional abuse. However, there are some minor warnings you should be aware of.
Forewarning: Beware spoilers below.
It's implied that animals are hunted and eaten in a few lines.
There are mentions of characters that "disappear" and aren't heard from again.
There are characters with the intent to manipulate and abuse others.
Contains descriptions of cartoon violence.
(spoiler) Possession / mind tricks direct to the player

Oh my stars, this is such a fun and creative story! I loved the varied mixture of art styles, the cheeky, high-concept premise, the shifting music, and the clean execution of the storyline. Very well done, team, and thank you for a fun and delightful game!
Thank you so much! It means the world to us.
